The Schuylkill Technology Center Adult Education Massage Therapy Program is a comprehensive 600-hour program designed to prepare students for entry level positions in the field of professional massage therapy. This program aligns with the standards established by the Pennsylvania State Board of Massage Therapy, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Upon program completion, students are prepared to sit for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx).
Next class starts July 13, 2026 and concludes July 1, 2027. Deadline to apply is June 15th. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4 pm- 8 pm at STC North Campus located at 101 Technology Drive, Frackville.
Program Structure (600 Contact Hours)
The curriculum is divided into four major instructional components that provide a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, hands-on skill development, and professional readiness:
• Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology (175 Hours)
Students gain a foundational understanding of the human body’s structure and function, body systems, and common pathologies. Emphasis is placed on how these systems relate to therapeutic touch, contraindications, and the safe application of massage modalities.
• Massage Theory, Bodywork Techniques, Hygiene & Safety (250 Hours)
This core section develops essential competencies in massage theory and practice. Students learn Swedish massage, deep tissue techniques, body mechanics, client assessment, draping, and professional hygiene standards. Safe and ethical practice procedures are emphasized throughout hands-on training.
• Ethics, Business Practices & Legal Requirements (25 Hours)
Students explore professional ethics, communication skills, and the laws governing massage therapy practice in Pennsylvania. Instruction covers documentation, scope of practice, client relations, and foundational business concepts for those pursuing private practice or employment.
• Related Modalities & Specialized Subjects (150 Hours)
This segment introduces a variety of complementary skills to enhance professional versatility, including:
- CPR & First Aid
- Warm Stone Massage
- Aromatherapy & Hydrotherapy
- Prenatal Massage
- Medical Massage foundations
Students gain exposure to specialized modalities used in clinical, spa, and wellness settings.
Program Outcomes
Graduates of the STC Adult Massage Therapy Program will:
- Demonstrate competency in the knowledge and skills required for safe, ethical massage practice
- Be prepared to take the MBLEx Examination
- Be equipped for entry level positions in professional setting: including medical offices, rehabilitation centers, spas, wellness facilities, or private practice
This program blends rigorous academic instruction with high-quality hands-on experience, ensuring that students are well-prepared for licensure and confident in their ability to provide effective therapeutic massage services.
