Automotive Technology

In this section, students will develop an understanding of the automotive industry and the skills needed for a successful entry-level career.  Students will learn fundamental industry skills including basic math, workplace safety, automotive systems, shop tools & equipment, diagnostic tools & equipment, and basic preventive maintenance.  Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills in the lab.

Students will learn basic skills relating to automotive engine design and diagnosis, as well as develop a basic understanding of lubricating and cooling systems.

Students will learn basic skills relating to electrical systems; theory, diagnosis & service of batteries; and lighting systems.

Students will learn basic skills relating to engine performance systems and intake & exhaust systems.

Students will learn basic skills relating to manual transmissions/transaxles and service, as well as automatic transmission/transaxles and service.

You will learn basic skills relating to tires and wheels, suspension systems, steering systems, restraint systems, and wheel alignment.

In this section you will learn the basic skills relating to brake systems including: disc brakes, drum brakes, antilock brakes, and traction/stability control systems.

In this section you will learn basic skills relating to heating and air conditioning, and air conditioning diagnosis and service.

You will learn all aspects of the industry safety practices.

• Submit a certified high school transcript or GED
• Must have funding sources secure and submit any award letters (if applicable) 10 days prior to the start
• Must be at least age 18
• Have a clean State Police Clearance

• Complete all classroom assignments, tests, and all skills/theory training
• Earn an overall grade point average of 80% or higher
• Be in compliance with the attendance policy outlined in the student handbooks
• Have all tuition and fees paid to ZERO balance

Once graduation requirements are met students will receive a certificate of completion as prescribed by the IU/STC Board of Directors and have the ability to sit for the PA State Inspection Certificate and EPA 609 Certificate.
